A thousand feet above sea-level is a tiny village in the land of the Cathar castles of south-west France. It is from this village and its magical surroundings that artist Brenda Mayo finds inspiration for her intriguingly beautiful clothes. She works with colour: the dusky tones of vineyards in late Autumn, the verdant palette of turbulent Spring, tawny hues of the birds of prey spiralling overhead. Mayo makes delicate objects of paper. Her house is dotted with Still Lifes, small assemblages, tokens of the places she has travelled to. They're the soul of her studio/workshop. Trained as a painter Mayo divides her time between painting, playing the cello and designing clothes. Her clothes are for special women, confident women who treasure exquisite and unusual things. |
